OPCSG Support for UCARE

OPCSG has made a grant of £6,000 to Urology Cancer Research and Education (UCARE) to help fund a Research Nurse at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford. The grant will be made in two payments of £3,000 on 1 October 2024 and on 1 October 2025.

The role of the research nurse is to support patients (and their families) participating in research studies and help them to understand their treatment options. While the nurse will be supporting a number of trials on a variety of cancers, a significant part of the work will relate to prostate cancer.

Keith Jenkins, Chair of OPCSG, commented "We know how important it is for patients and their families to understand what treatment they are receiving, its purpose and its effects and this grant will help prostate cancer patients with this. We look forward to receiving regular reports of the support this post will be giving them."
