Boats and bikes

July 2017

Over the last weekend in June OPCSG was involved in two memorable events.  On Sunday around 100 people enjoyed the annual cruise in a Salters steamer on the Thames from Wallingford. Entertained by the jazz trio of Dave, Tony and Colin, and enjoying cream teas and the bar, everyone aboard voted the cruise another resounding success.  For the past year the President of Witney Rotary Club, Steve Holborough, has raised considerable sums of money for OPCSG by running a series of events.  We were delighted to welcome him and his wife Pauline as guests on the river cruise and to thank them for their efforts.  The incoming Mayor of Witney, Chris Woodward, who also came as a guest on the cruise, has been generous enough to choose OPCSG as one of his nominated charities for his year in office.

On Monday we attended Cassington Bike Night to spread awareness of prostate cancer.  The police estimate that 12,000 bikes came to Cassington on a warm evening – yes, you read correctly, twelve thousand!  As every year, OPCSG ran a car park in a field in the village, raising over £500 in voluntary parking contributions, and our team interacted with hundreds of men at the event.  These photos reflect two events that gave great pleasure and raised awareness among large numbers of men.  Enormous thanks to the committee members and volunteers who made both events possible.
