Meeting on Monday 3rd June at The Oxford Golf Club

As previously notified, our next meeting is on Monday 3rd June at The Oxford Golf Club, Hill Top Road, OX4 1PF at 6.30pm for 7.00pm start.

There will be a talk entitled "Cancer - the latest understanding of the disease". This will be given by Dr. Martin Christlieb who is the Public Engagement Manager at the Department of Oncology at The University of Oxford.

We all have our own imagination of what cancer is, but generally have no perception of the reality. Dr Christlieb will give us the latest information on how the world understands cancer now - how does it start - what is the nature of the disease. The talk includes easy to understand information and maybe 'audience participation' on a group basis to play a game to anticipate which groups of people may be most likely to get cancer. There are no gory photos - just graphics. I and several of the committee attended a similar meeting earlier this year and we learned so much - definitely "not to be missed".

There will be the usual raffle (prizes are always welcome), with tea/coffee and a biscuit and, of course, the bar will be open.

General News

Flat Screen TV For The Oncology Ward

We have recently purchased and installed a flat screen TV in the Day-room of the new Oncology Ward at the Churchill. This has been well received but we did warn them that we are not responsible for the quality of the programmes currently available! We are also in discussion with the Urology and Oncology departments at the Churchill regarding other equipment.
